My Safe Florida Home Roof Upgrades in Tampa Bay

Planning a roof replacement? The My Safe Florida Home program may help eligible homeowners offset the cost of qualifying hurricane-resistant roof improvements. New Roofs Group can review your roofing scope and provide an estimate.

When can a roof replacement qualify?

This is a hurricane-mitigation program, not a general free-roof program. Roof-covering replacement may be eligible when it is necessary to complete an improvement recommended in your MSFH initial inspection report:

Stronger roof connections

Recommended roof-deck attachment or roof-to-wall attachment improvements help strengthen the roof assembly. The appropriate scope depends on your inspection findings.

Secondary water resistance

A recommended secondary water-resistance upgrade can help limit water intrusion if the roof covering is damaged. Ask us to review the roofing work your report recommends.

Replacing a roof covering alone does not qualify. Roof patching and partial repairs are not eligible. Where replacement is part of an eligible improvement, the entire pitched roof, entire flat roof, or both must be replaced.

Read the program’s official roof replacement guidance.

Homeowner eligibility: start with these checks

  • A site-built, owner-occupied single-family home or eligible townhouse with a homestead exemption.
  • The original construction permit application was made before January 1, 2008.
  • Dwelling insurance coverage generally does not exceed $700,000. Qualifying low-income homeowners are exempt from this value limit.
  • An initial inspection completed through MSFH, with recommended eligible improvements.
  • Required contractor information, a final inspection and the program’s insurance documentation.

Rentals, second homes, manufactured homes and condominiums do not qualify under this homeowner program. Townhome roofing eligibility depends on the program’s current rules and the recommendations in the initial inspection report.

These checks are a starting point, not an approval. Application priorities, funding availability and individual program requirements apply. Check your official applicant portal for your next step.

Review official eligibility requirements or start with the official MSFH website.

How much assistance may be available?

Matching grants

For eligible applicants, the state generally contributes $2 for each $1 contributed by the homeowner, up to a $10,000 state contribution. For example, $15,000 in approved eligible costs could mean a $10,000 reimbursement and a $5,000 homeowner share.

Matching-grant homeowners generally pay the contractor first and submit a reimbursement request with a paid-in-full invoice.

Low-income grants

Qualifying low-income homeowners may receive up to $10,000 without a matching contribution. The program does not require a paid-in-full invoice for this grant type.

Approval and payment requirements still apply. Project costs beyond the approved assistance remain the homeowner’s responsibility.

Amounts are not guaranteed. Funding is subject to program approval and availability. Insurance savings depend on the improvements and your insurer. See official grant FAQs.

Follow the right order before work begins

  1. Apply through MSFH. Complete the program’s application steps and initial inspection.
  2. Review your report and obtain an estimate. Share the recommended roofing improvements so we can discuss the scope.
  3. Wait for official grant approval. Follow your portal instructions before authorizing grant-funded construction.
  4. Complete the agreed work and documentation. Arrange the required final inspection and submit the program’s reimbursement or draw request.

Do not begin grant-funded construction before official approval. Starting early can make the work ineligible for reimbursement. An NRG estimate or roof assessment does not replace the program’s initial inspection.

Questions before requesting an estimate

Does an old or leaking roof automatically qualify?

No. Roof age or a leak alone does not establish grant eligibility. The program’s inspection must recommend qualifying mitigation improvements, and the project must receive approval.

Can NRG approve my grant application?

No. We provide roofing estimates and perform the agreed roofing work. The program determines eligibility, approval and payment.

Do I need to have an inspection report already?

You can contact us to discuss your roof at any stage. For an estimate aligned with MSFH recommendations, your initial inspection report is the best starting point. Apply for the official inspection through the program.

Is the entire replacement covered?

Not necessarily. The maximum state contribution is generally $10,000, and only approved eligible costs qualify. Matching contributions, costs above the grant and noneligible work may be your responsibility.

What if my roof needs urgent repairs?

Call us to discuss the immediate roofing issue. Do not assume emergency work will be reimbursed by MSFH. Ask the program how any work could affect your application.

Request a roof upgrade estimate

Tell us where your home is and where you are in the MSFH process. We will discuss the roofing scope and next steps. Please do not send Social Security numbers, income documents or insurance policy numbers through this form.

New Roofs Group is an independent roofing contractor, not the grant administrator. This is a roofing inquiry, not a grant application. An estimate does not guarantee eligibility, approval, reimbursement or insurance savings. Do not begin grant-funded work before official approval.
